Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk went to Twitter on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 to make the announcement that his baby boy had been born. It is definitely an exciting time for Musk; it is the first child born to him and his partner, Claire Elise Boucher.
The fact that Elon Musk just had a baby is certainly a newsworthy piece of knowledge worth sharing in and of itself; however, that’s not the most shocking part of what’s going on. Musk went to Twitter to explain that he and his wife had decided on a name for the baby boy, and that name would be X Æ A-12.
Naturally, Twitter had a field day with the name, with everyone wondering what the name meant, how to pronounce it, and if the Musk family was serious with their name of choice.
The Explanation
Luckily, soon after the baby was born, Claire Elise Boucher went to Twitter to explain what the name meant. There are tons of different parts of the name, all of which have important meaning to the Musk family.
The X at the beginning of the name, according to Boucher, stands for “the unknown variable”, perhaps signifying that the family and the baby are mysterious and full of wonder.
The Æ symbol in the name is the Elven spelling of the acronym AI, which stands for artificial intelligence. That would make sense because Elon Musk is the master of technology and has made fantastic advances in the world of AI. It also translates to “love” in many different languages, including Japanese.
The A-12 has multiple meanings. A-12 was an aircraft that was known for having no weapons and no defense; it was simply one of the fastest aircrafts ever created. It was great in battle because of its speed, but it was non-violent. The A also is symbolic for the Musk family. It also represents the world “Archangel”, which Boucher describes as her favorite song.
Is The Name Legal?
Unfortunately for X Æ A-12 Musk, the name is not legal in California and will not be recognized by the state as of now. The state limits names to the 26 letters in the English alphabet, which means that hyphens and numbers are not allowed. The Æ symbol is also prohibited. In fact, the only parts of the name that could be allowed are the X and the A.
How Do You Pronounce X Æ A-12?
Many people went to Twitter after the announcement wondering how the name should be pronounced. Luckily, Musk came out and said that it isn’t as difficult as you would think. The name is simply pronounced X Ash A Twelve.
Final Thoughts
Whether or not this is some crazy publicity stunt, X Æ A-12 Musk is definitely one of the crazier names that has been proposed this year. Still, it might be better than Corona or Rona which have gained tons of popularity given current events. We’ll wait around and see if the name sticks!
I now also know that i can spell my name Ash as Æ wtf is happening with the world!
