Liverpool tell City Agger will cost over £22 million!

Manchester City have made an informal approach for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger but have been told by it will take more than £22 million to lure the player away.  Agger who has two years remaining on his contract has yet to finalise a new deal with the club and City are valuing Agger at around £18 million.

Though City have not submitted an offer, Liverpool feel they should get more or less that same fee that was given to Everton for Joleon Lescott. There have also been rumours of a player plus cash deal which would include Adam Johnson as a potential make weight.

Meanwhile there have been further developments with player departures and signings from Liverpool with Craig Bellamy set to complete a return to Cardiff City imminently. QPR are said to be interested in the Welsh international but Bellamy wants to be closer to his family. Liverpool are still trying to sort out the purchase of Joe Allen from Swansea. New Swansea manager Michael Laudrup is hoping to persuade the player to stay but this saga looks like it will keep rumbling on.

Laudrup said: “Joe Allen showed up today at the training ground, he did not train but I had a small chat with him, but we did not touch the subject right now. I did not think it was the proper moment, but we will have to talk about that with the player to see what he wants so we can say something official, otherwise the rumours will go on until 31 August, which is not in anyone’s interest. On Wednesday he will be back in training with the other two guys who have been at the Olympics and then we will have some talks so it does not go on until the last day of the transfer window”
