After being unceremoniously dumped as manager of Tottenham Hotspurs despite guiding them to a fourth place finish, Harry Redknapp is in contention a the manager of the Russian national side. Six months ago most people were thinking Redknapp would have be an international manager but not many would have thought it would have been Russia.
The Russian Football Union had released a list of potential names that they are hoping will become the next manager. Rumours last week circulated that Roberto Mancini was their top choice and a salary of £35 million was being branded about to obtain him. Mancini subsequently signed a 5 year extension with Manchester City and that was the end of that story.
Fabio Capello is on the list as is former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez. Russia were led to the Euro 2012 championships by their manager Dick Advocaat. Advocaat though announced that he was leaving to join PSV Eindhoven before the Euro 2012 tournament started and the search has continued ever since.
One thing is for certain, Russia are not short of money and any of the coaches mentioned would be a real coup.
