Liverpool have rejected a season-long loan offer from Newcastle for striker Andy Carroll.
Newcastle offered to pay part of Carroll’s £80,000-a-week wages, with a view to a permanent deal next summer, but the terms fall short of Liverpool’s expectations, with the striker keen to remain at Anfield to try to prove himself to new manager Brendan Rodgers.
Carroll scored 33 times in 91 games with the Magpies before ex-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish brought him to Anfield after paying £35 million, making him the most expensive British player.
