Manchester United will play Barcelona in a pre-season friendly 8 August

Manchester United will be playing Barcelona in a pre-season friendly. The match will take place in Gothenburg on 8th August and will be the third time they have met in as many years. The last two times being in Champions League finals. The two big football giants met last year in America with Manchester United taking victory 2-1.

With Pep Guardiola’s departure Tito Vilanova will be in charge of Barcelona. The game is sure to be a sell out and with United only having played in Gothenburg once before it is sure to be a spectacle. United will be travelling to South Africa, China and Norway with the trip to Gothenburg being the final leg of the tour.

United chief executive David Gill said: “Manchester United against Barcelona is one of the top fixtures in world football and we are delighted to work with GotEvent to bring this match to the beautiful city of Gothenburg.  We have a large following throughout Scandinavia and it’s great that this match will form part of our preparations for the new season.”

It will be interesting to see how Manchester united and Barcelona fair in their respective leagues this season as they were both beaten to the titles by Manchester City and Real Madrid. Tito Vilanova will have his work cut out if he wants to emulate Pep Guardiola and with Jose Mourinho he has a foe who knows what winning is all about.
