Fabio Capello blamed England’s exit at the Euro 2012 at the door of Wayne Rooney. Incredibly he said “After watching the last game I think that Rooney understands only Scottish,” said Capello, in a reference to the Scouser’s Old Trafford manager. “That’s because he only plays well in Manchester, where Sir Alex Ferguson speaks Scottish.”
This comes after Capello was said to be furious at claims by Rooney that tactical messages were “lost in translation” during Capello’s reign. Roy Hodgson has suggested that Rooney’s poor display was one of the reasons that England went out of the tournament but Capello stuck the boot it.
Referring to Rooney’s comments Capello’s long term aide Italo Galbiati who was a member of his England staff said: “He’s ungrateful. Capello made himself understood and respected. Football has only one language: the ball. He cannot teach us anything.”
