PSG put £37.5 million on the table for a defender and AC Milan still said no. That goes to show you how much the Milan think of their player. The offer made would have broken the world record for a defender and PSG were probably confident that a deal could have been struck with that kind of deal on offer.
Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi said :”We had no intention of selling Silva,”. The record transfer for a defender was 10 years ago when Manchester United bought Rio Ferdinand for £33.1 million from Leeds United. Carlo Ancelotti who is a former AC Milan manager is now manager of PSG and with the Qatar Investment Authority owning 70% of the club they are looking to flex their financial power. Berlusconi also added: “Thiago Silva is a great man and we can find an easy solution,We hope to have the best defence next season.”
Vice-President Adriano Galliani said: “They made us a very interesting offer, close to €46m, We considered the possibility (to sell) and we looked at the central defenders that could replace Thiago Silva but we haven’t found an adequate player. The old heart of Silvio Berlusconi has allowed us to reject this offer.”
