After lots of speculation around the future of Liverpool manager and legend Kenny Dalglish, the final chapter has closed. Dalglish guided the club to the Carling cup final victory over Cardiff and the FA Cup final which they lost to Chelsea. The decision has been taken as Liverpool’s league form has been disastrous. They finished 4 points behind rivals Everton in eighth place.
Despite having a huge transfer budget their form was not particular amazing and arguably are now in a worse off position than when Benitez left. Dalglish has been blasted for his purchases of Andy Carroll for £35 million, Jordan Henderson £20 million and Stuart Downing £20 million. All three players have failed to set the league alight and in the end it was the culmination the transfers and league position that led to his downfall.
The news comes as Steven Gerrard was named the captain for England in the upcoming European 2012 championships. Liverpool owners FSG will need to show they know what they are doing after sacking a legend. The next move is crucial and will quite possible determine Liverpool fans view of the owners.
Favourites for the job are former Chelsea manager Andres Villa-Boas and Wigan manager Roberto Martinez .
