blood lamp
Check out the glowing lamp that runs on human blood! (video)

Why on earth would anyone want invent a bulb that runs on human blood you ask? Well  its creator Mike Thompson says it’s an attempt to ‘make us think twice about our disposable society.’

The lamp works by breaking the top of the bulb off and cutting yourself so enough blood pours into the  bulb where it reacts with the chemicals inside. The chemicals and blood make the bulb glow and give light.

Mike Thompson says the average American uses 3383kwh per year and  he wants people to realise that energy does cost. “What if power came at a cost to the individual?’ he asks.

On his website Mr Thompson writes: ‘For the lamp to work one breaks the top off, dissolves the powder, and uses their own blood to power a simple light.

‘By creating a lamp that can only be used once, the user must consider when light is needed the most, forcing them to rethink how wasteful they are with energy, and how precious it is’.
