Manchester United has been long touted as a destination for promising midfielder Nicola Gaitan. The Argentina International has been on Sir Alex Ferguson’s list for a long time now and after Benfica’s champions league heroics over United, United have been adamant in wanting a deal to be done for the midfielder.
The player has a £38 million release clause in his contract and Benfica were understood to be wanting the full amount of that in cash. However with United unwilling to go to that sum with just a money offer, they offered to let Macheda and Fabio be part of the deal.
Gaitan has also been tracked by big money club PSG and Inter Milan. Inter are currently struggling to even make the champions league and PSG are a club under transission having been acquired by billionaires last summer.
Ferguson has included two players who have failed to make the impact that was expected, Macheda and Fabio. Macheda who has been on loan at QPR has failed to make any real impact and Fabio has suffered with too niggling injuries.
The deal is expected to be announced when the season concludes.
